The Westmoreland Yough Trail Chapter takes seriously its responsibility to maintain, improve and enhance the 10.5 mile section of the trail located within Westmoreland County, part of the Great Allegheny Passage. This is an all volunteer effort. The present Over The Hill Gang handles all aspects of maintaining the trail while other members may volunteer as trail monitors or by assisting in planning and organizing fundraising and events. Still others work to coordinate media such as the website and our newsletter. All money raised through memberships, grants, donations and events such as the Run/Walk held in the Spring, Trail Appreciation Day in June, the Labor Day Poker Run, and the bicycle raffle go toward improvement and maintenance. We are fortunate to have the partnership with the Belle Vernon Rotary Club who erected the Smithton pavilion and the West Newton Rotary for assisting the Belle Vernon Rotary to complete the overhaul of the rail car at the West Newton Station.
All of our achievements and improvements to the trail would not be possible without the many dedicated volunteers that we are fortunate to have. On behalf of the trail visitors, local riders and trail walkers...................................thank you.
Get involved by becoming a member, volunteering, and participating in events. The trail is a wonderful asset for all to use and enjoy. Keep up to date with trail news and events on the website, Facebook page and on Twitter @bikeWYTC.
